Put Spring in your step

March 19, 2018

I don’t know about you but I’m ready to say goodbye to winter! Every season has its beauty but I’m definitely welcoming spring. Even though the temperatures are still low, the days are getting longer, birds are chirping and flowers are blooming. Spring time is a period of renewal, fresh starts and new beginnings. It prompts us to want to refresh our surroundings and clean up.

One ritual we often think of is spring cleaning. Spring cleaning is truly about refreshing and rejuvenating.

Spring cleaning is just as much about the space around us as it is about our mind, body and spirit. Without the later our attempts outside ourselves are limited, and we would often fail to meet our expectations about the mind, body and spirit connection.

Taking care of yourself enhances life in so many ways throughout the entire year and is essential if you want to consciously design your life.

Having a fresh focused mind is a good place to start as it allows you to make priorities and set new intentions based on your core values. Start by taking stock of your life, reviewing the past few months and letting go of what no longer serves you. Take a deep look at where you are and feel what you no longer need in your life, what no longer serves who you want to be. Next, create a your personal to-do list of what you want to achieve. Include dream goals as well as short and long-term goals. Think about health, wellbeing, career, relationships, hobbies and your environment.

Once you find clarity of mind you can move on with the cleansing process physically (body and environment) and spiritually/soulfully.

Five springtime health tips:

  • Spring is a time for expanding energy, not storing. Replace heavier, slow-cooked winter meals with lightly cooked and fresh ingredients.

  • As the sun is shining earlier and staying out later, experiment with starting your day earlier; go outside to watch the dawn.

  • It’s normal to feel restless or have more energy at this time of the year, use that energy to get more active.

  • Get into gardening - mowing the lawn, raking leaves and planting bulbs – is a great way to soak vitamin D, spend time in nature, breath some fresh air and get moderate intensity physical exercise.

  • Spring is a perfect time to tap in to your creativity, as it’s the season of new beginnings. We are naturally creative beings, but we can easily get blocked with our minds fears and doubts. Pick up a new hobby, think about something you loved doing as a child.
